We all know the benefits of working out. What you may or may not know is the importance of stretching. I would like to say that we all are aware of how great stretching is. That’s evident in the boom in yoga. More and more, people are making sure to add some form of stretching as part of their workout routine. However, I believe there’s still a large amount of the population that doesn’t factor stretching into their workouts.
When short on time, we tend to skip stretching. We see that as the least important part of our routine. What if I told you that stretching before and after are as important as what you do in between. There are many benefits to stretching. Though there are plenty, we’ll just point out a few of them here:
We can spend numerous seminars on the benefits of stretching, but these are just a few. So let’s flip back up to the title of this post and see what it says: ‘Static vs Dynamic’. Well, what is that? Thanks for asking, I'll tell you! Dynamic stretching is what you do before you workout. To keep it simple, it is stretching while you move. You perform movement stretches that replicate, or are close to, movements you’ll be executing during your workout. This is to allow the blood to flow through your muscles and get them warmed up and ready to go. Static stretching is what you do after your workout. Here, your stretches are still. After a nice workout, use static stretching as your cool down to help alleviate muscle soreness. This is not to say that static stretching should only be performed after a workout. Yoga, a quick morning or midday stretch, or stretching at home can be a static stretching routine. However before you play a sport or put your body through a tough workout, make sure you warm it up with a dynamic stretching routine. Again, stretching doesn’t only have to take place when you workout. You can stretch at any time and at any place. Let’s make sure that we’re treating our bodies well and taking in all the benefits that stretching has to offer! You’ll be grateful of it in the long (and short) run. Be Greater!

It’s easy to follow the crowd, to do what every one else is doing. However in these times, now more than ever, what’s needed are people willing to to be different. It’s going to take a people that are not going to accept the norm, and just take things as they are because “that’s the way
things are suppose to be”. Let’s dare to be different. Don’t fall or stoop to the level of others. Rise above that. Be an example in your home, at your job, in your community. These days, it’s going to take some individuals willing to raise the bar. These Bar-Raisers are the ones that’ll take a stand. They won’t let adversity, fear, worry, anxiety, doubt, negativity, or what anybody else has to say get in the way. A lot of times, we are waiting for the other person, the person beside us, the person across the country to make the first move before we follow. We need more genuine, true leaders. Some of us have the capacity and have what it takes to lead. We just have to make the move and watch the change take effect. Let’s make a change, let’s make an impact. Let’s not just sit back and wait for someone else to take a stand. We have the ability to create change. Who’s going to join me in raising the bar? Who else is going to be a Bar-Raiser? Let’s get it! Be Greater If I told you that, how your entire day pans out all starts out in the first few moments when you get out of bed, would you believe me?
Would you believe me that your attitude and what type of energy you will give off is all decide before you wipe the cold out your eye? How your day goes is all dependent upon you. You can decide what type of day you’re going to have. Do you wake up angry at the world, thinking about all the problems and challenges in your day ahead, nothing but negative thoughts roaming around in your head? Is your mood instantly destroyed because it’s cloudy and rainy outside? Or do you look forward to getting up out of bed to do what you do, to follow and build your passion, radiating nothing but positive energy? You fall into one of these 2 categories whether you recognize it or not. YOU set the tone for your day. YOU set the atmosphere for what kind of day you’re going to have. Don’t allow anyone else to steal your joy or rob you of your happiness. Don’t allow anyone to dictate how you will feel. If you need help in starting your day off right, start with a couple minutes of meditation or breathing techniques to set your mind in the right frame. Listen to your favorite song, listen to a motivation message, say a prayer, do a couple minutes of yoga. These are just a few techniques that’ll make a substantial difference in how your day turns out. Make sure you have a purpose for getting out of bed. Have something that you are striving for besides just collecting a check. Make sure you are having an impact on the lives of people that depend on you or that you’re around. That’ll help keep you motivated. That’ll help give you the drive that you need to keep a positive attitude. Keep an optimistic outlook on life. It’s all in your hands. Be Greater! At a young age we learn about money. Maybe around when we were preteens, some even earlier. We were taught about coins and bills, and the difference between each one. We knew how much pennies, nickels, and dimes were worth compared to 1, 5, 20, and even 100 dollar bills. It didn’t take long to learn that those bills are worth more than those little coins.
As we grew older, we learned even more about the value of money (at least…maybe most did). Sure, money might have become more complicated when you factor in loans, homes, cars, and bills (you know, the ones that need to be paid to keep things running), but the value of bills (money bills) always remained at a greater value than that of coins. If we know that bills have a greater value than coins, then why do we settle for just pennies, nickels, and dimes? Why do we settle for less? I want you to just take a second and evaluate where you are in life right now. Examine your relationships, friendships, job, income, and health. Are you getting the best out of life in all of those areas? If you stopped and gave deep thought to one of those areas, or even another, and felt you were settling in one of those departments, then it prompts a follow-up question: How much are you worth? Are you worth just pennies, nickels, and dimes, or are you worth the big bills? Don’t settle for less in any area of your life. Don’t let anyone ever tell you that you are worthless. That you aren’t much of anything or that you won’t amount to anything. Make sure in all areas of your life, that you know your worth, that you know your value, and that you are treated as such. Whoever, or whatever, doesn’t see the value in you and what you have to offer, you don’t need in your life. Sure you may have to start somewhere, such as a job. You may have to start at the bottom. However make sure that you don’t get complacent in staying where you are if you aren’t valued. That goes for a relationship or friendship as well. Know your worth! Know who you are, and don’t let anybody tell you differently. Don’t settle for the coins, go get the big bucks. Be Greater! |
